Behind the scenes of a Facebook page

After insisting for weeks, my supervisor finally allowed me to use MAM’s Facebook page. The page does enjoy a relative popularity – 1500 ‘likes’ which is not bad for this type of NGO. Their issue was that they did not often use their page – last time in January…hence my insistence to use it.

Before, I thought using a Facebook page was summed up in simply posting stuff like on my own profile. I was wrong. My supervisor told the previous Facebook admin to explain to me how to use it. He showed me all the possibilities offered now by Facebook: we can now build an audience by boosting our posts, provided we give a little sum of money. The result is that boosted posts appear on the news feed of people who have not even liked the page.I was surprised to see what we can do. Now I know how all those unwanted posts appear on my page.

But the question is when does a Facebook page stop being of public relations field to become pure marketing? The line is blurred.

Hi Nicolas,

You're so lucky to have been given the opportunity to post content on Facebook for your internship. This was something I was not given the opportunity. However, I did a lot of other PR aspects such as article writing and sponsorship, which I really enjoyed.

I am very intrigued at the link you have made about PR and Marketing on Facebook almost being the same. I have never thought about that before.

I hope you enjoyed your place. I wish you luck in the future.

Hi! Nicolas,
Hope your internship went well.

I have also come to realize that Facebook is actually one of the greatest marketing and communications tool ever invented. It is one of the main communications platform that I am using in my placement. Facebook has brought some consequent changes in the traditional ways of marketing. For example Billboards and Newspaper adverts are nowhere near as effective as Facebook. The major difference being that with Facebook the marketers can reach out straight to their target audience instead of waiting for them to be influenced by the traditional means. With the introduction of the likes system, Facebook has also created an instant feedback system which was lacking before.

For my project, one of our main strength that we are using to attract sponsors is our network on facebook.
