Benefits of social media for high end fashion

Hi all,

I have recently begun my placement at a store called Dilettante in Claremont and Perth. Prior to my placement i was a sales staff member at the boutique however now i have taken on further responsibilities in regards to social media, events and newsletters.

Dilettante for those who don't know is a curated collection of conceptual fashion designers from across the globe. Transcending a store, a gallery of contemporary style.

Upon my first week in the role i was given the opportunity to develop a social media strategy. As the store had not had any social media policies in place from the past i had a big task on my hands. Firstly i researched their existing social media posts and the engagement they were receiving.

Fashion can be daunting and somewhat scary for many. Through my social media strategy i aimed to show a less serious side to the store and portray the Dilettante brand as more inviting, rather than an exclusive luxury product.

To achieve this i have developed a number of strategies to build upon Dilettante's client relations. I have developed a series of timelines for when certain things are to be posted as well as a structure as to how each post is to be written. I have also constructed an initial style guide for all dilettante communications which defines language, terms, policies, tone, approved vs unapproved content and crisis management. I am also working on a collaboration with local bloggers to further our exposure to different online communities.

I have noticed since the inception of our new social media strategy a number of clients have visited the store looking for a particular garment they have seen on Instagram or Facebook. This along with a large increase in followers and engagement has inspired me to keep developing creative ideas in regards to social media and high end fashion.

Keep a look out for my next post which will detail my work on event management of three major events in Dilettantes calendar; STYLEAID, a showcase at the Art Gallery of WA and PICA's annual Salon Vernissage.

Regards,
Kelvin Janissen
