Event Hub at Magenta

During the past two weeks of my internship, I was lucky enough to be involved in two events that Magenta (my placement) has been associated with. Events are a big part of business here at Magenta and being involved and observing what happens from planning to execution has taught me that you must have organisational skills that are above and beyond in order to pull off a success! Within the scope of work in the public relations field, working on an event may involve a PR professional to simply create coverage for the client or be responsible for the entire process. I was exposed to both of these levels of involvement.

As mentioned in my previous blog post, Magenta was founded by Melissa Lekias and her acclaimed street artist husband, Stormie Mills. A friend of Stormie, Jay, an artist from Melbourne is holding his first solo exhibition, hosted and presented by Magenta. Billy Bleed is a social worker and artist - with a incredible showcase of paintings that come from a very deep place, as explained by Jay as we were given a tour around our office of all the works and the stories behind them. The exhibition "The Beautiful Fallen" was hosted in our office space.

Knowing very little about art and exhibitions, I observed for the first three weeks of my placement the effort that goes into such an event and the excitement once it all comes together, in particular, the aspect of approaching a journalist to attend and then publishing of their story. Having the opportunity to witness every element coming together and meeting an artist for the first time was inspiring and extremely exciting for me. Collectively, The Beautiful Fallen was a great success and many works now have a new home.

The following week I assisted backstage for a client's Spring/Summer Fashion Launch. This was an exhilarating experience, especially as it was something I had never done before - dressing models! Magenta played a smaller role in this event, as the client conducted majority or the organising and Magenta handled the PR aspect and backstage assistance.

I have also been asked to write two blog posts for our website as one of my tasks for next week. I will be featuring this on my next post.

Thanks for reading.
