So after a hectic week in the communications world, I thought that it would be nice to share with you how my work has made me happy.
Public Relations, we all know by now that we never really rest.
Like...never.
In my last post, I have made you aware that I have been put in charge (under supervision of course) of an event that is to be done at the end of August. To be more precise, a flea market is organized by the Medine Foundation Horizons which concentrates on financially helping out a pre-primary school that I have to come to love very much.
As a PR, I have realised that helping out people during CSR projects is very important, not only for the company's image, but for your own feelings as a human. We paid a visit to the lady in charge of the school and I thought before entering the school "Ok, let's get it over with". Obvisouly, I had no clue that I would change my mind that quickly. Seeing the children and the babies really triggered something in me and I got a very special motivation to help them out and make this event a very successful one. So coming back to the office on the next day, I decided to REALLY get to it and organize the event as it should.
Having made a running schedule, I dropped down every detail and every date that should be considered to make this event not only a successful one but a memorable one. I went through everything that the company can freely offer or lend; meaning T-shirts, caps, banners, and even stuff to give to the market (If any one has something to give I would be very grateful, please comment below) - no I did not start to harass people about giving something.... Just went to each and every office I could enter without getting weird looks. So now that I have well planned the event, I know exactly what to do before, during and after the event.
So why did I mention that it was a hectic week is because I have been to a press conference of an event that Medine Limited is sponsoring. The Jazz Festival which is planned for September will be a very talented one.
The press conference was very interesting as I was there representing my company. I was being very differently treated [like as if the money came out of my own personal pocket] and the people responsible kept mentionning Medine and other sponsors with many many thanks. We also had a few posters and leaflets to be stuck around the office and distributed to people.
My experience was very different to what I'm used to as I usually go to press conferences in the skin of a Journalist and now it was under another cap. I love my job.
Another thing that I have to add is a meeting with presidents of several organisations in Bambous which is in the West of Mauritius. Why did we arrange a meeting is for them to take better care of the Medine Leisure Park which has been put in disposition for the people of the West. Unfortunately, a lot of issues has come out of this park for the past months and before it becomes any worse, Medine has decided to put people in charge of the park and give it a new and fresh look.
I have to say that the meeting went well. Except the fact that most of these men were looking for employment when it was arranged that it would be a voluntary work. So it was part of my job in this meeting to make them understand (again) that it is voluntary and that it would be for the well-being of everyone using the park. It was also mentionned that they could use the park for their activities, no matter what, they were still asking for employment. Uhm.
On top of these little outings, my job was also to call around 200 CEOs, Directors, Managers (and so many other important people) to get their e-mail addresses for the release of Medine's Newsletter which is due to come out next month.
AND on top of this, not to forget to monitor the media and update the company's website..............I. Love. My. Job! ha.
So I shall keep you posted soon of my life as a PR intern.
Cordially,
Roxanne
Ps. Just to inspire people a little because those children inspired me.
