Developing a PR plan for WA Farmers!

Hello Everyone!

I have been having a wonderful time working at WA Farmers and have applied a lot of the skills I have learnt during my course to my work at the Federation. I have been developing a PR plan for WA Farmers to help with the promotion of their event.

Some of the ideas I have included in the plan for the AgconnectWA Annual Conference include:

Social Media- Social media is a valuable tool to use these days when promoting an event and therefore AgConnects’ Facebook page will be mainly used as a key channel to communicate to targeted audiences and expose them of the benefits and concepts of the event. The PR  plan includes how they can utilise Facebook effectively, a timeline of Facebook posts to use and when to post them and how to generate conversation and feedback on their Facebook page.

Twitter will be utilised in the same way as Facebook, by providing an AgConnectWA page offering links to videos, sites and encouraging excitement around the event through tweets. I have also included a timeline of twitter posts to use and appropriate hashtags.

Traditional Media:
Other traditional media includes an emailing list to contact and receive feedback from attendees. I have suggested using the Federations newsletter ‘Farm weekly’ to include news releases in about the event. Flyers and posters are another option to promote the event, however there is a strict budget we must stick to.

Other information I provided in the plan was how WA Farmers could promote their major sponsors Westpac and Agrimaster. I also included information on networking with guest speakers on social media and how they can contact and provide information about the event to students direct through the universities in WA.

I have got a lot out of working at WA Farmers and I am actually rather sad that my time will be ending here soon!

Hey Ellen!

Great to hear you're enjoying your internship, how exciting that you're developing a PR plan!

I think you've done a great job to combine the use of social and traditional media to increase the reach of your campaign.

Social media can be used as a valuable tool to engage with your target audience, with such platforms as Facebook and Twitter. Nowadays, it is especially helpful, with such sites providing you with insights so you can measure the effectiveness of each post.

Traditional media is another effective tool to reach out to the public. With regard to receiving feedback from attendees, may I suggest you provide an incentive for them, such as give-aways or discounts. This can increase the amount of responses you receive substantially! During my internship we used ticket give-aways as an incentive for patrons to provide us with feedback on an event, which we found was very effective.

Best of luck with everything!

Hi there Ellen,

All your work at WA Farmers sounds very interesting and its excellent to see that all the content we have learnt throughout our time at uni has been useful.

The campaign you are creating sounds great, the use of social media to reach your desired market is a very effective tool, especially the use of Facebook.

I have been using Facebook a lot at my internship and have found that it has so may great features that help you to measure how many people your post has reached and who the most common target age group it reaches is. I find that i often find myself adapting what i am saying and how i am delivering it once i have seen these statistics.

I also feel as though competitions and give away's are a very effective tool to use to successfully engage your audience as everyone loves a good competition!

Good luck with your final days at your internship!
