It's all about forward thinking

Hi everyone, hope you’re all going well!

The last few weeks at Mandurah Performing Arts have been quite slow for me… The August- October months are generally quite slow so there has been little promoting for me to do, but hey I guess in every job there are times when you don’t have much going on right?

As I am nearing the end of my internship with only a few more days left, I have learnt that the Public Relations industry isn’t always as fast, exciting and exhilarating as I once thought, but I’m okay with that! One of the main things I am beginning to learn since starting on this intern journey is that this industry calls for a lot of forward thinking, especially when working in Performing Arts. If you aren’t bombarded with shows that are on that week there will be plenty coming up that need to be promoted in their own specific way.

To catch you up on what I’ve been doing over the last few weeks, I’ve been organising for local artist Jared Prior to come in to MPAC to complete a painting in the foyer, while this was going on we sent out a social media blast to get people down and watch him complete the amazing art piece and then left it in the foyer to attract some more visitors to the Centre. Also, a programme is coming to Mandurah Performing Arts called “Splash!” which is a programme for kids and families across the school holidays. We had to think about a way to promote this which would get the most attendees as possible, we decided it would be best to reach out to local community group ‘Mum’s of Mandurah’ and get them to mention it on their social media pages and mention it in any group meetings they had coming up.

All in all the last couple of weeks have been quite slow, there has been quite a few hold ups in the office when it has come to getting up a new website and problems with ticket links etc. so morale has been quite low, but it can’t always be fun and games and I’m sure things will start to pick up again soon with summer approaching!

Talk to you all next time!
