"It's not about ideas. It's about making ideas happen." - Scott Belsky

My internship is unfortunately now over. I have to say that I felt that it was much more than just an internship! In fact, I was not just an intern, I was actually part of the team and this was amazing.

To be able to put into practice 3 years of study in 20 days was a real challenge. It is quite impressive how similar but different real life is from studies. As I mentioned in my previous posts, our assignments taught us how to be creative, to invent new tactics to reach different kind of objectives, but making the idea happen is something else!

Indeed, I always thought that writing a PR plan was not that difficult but I never really
thought of implementing the tactics. Being at the heart of an event is quite hectic; contact the journalists, write the media kit and releases, organize the branding, organize the invitations/registrations, looking for sponsors, updating the social medias, ensuring the good ongoing of the event, make the debrief, clean-up, follow up with the media..etc.

My internship made me realize how much I love this job and how fascinating it can be. I remember at the start of the PR Consultancy unit, my lecturer asked me if I would prefer to be in a consultancy or in a communication department of a company. At that time I said ‘in a communication department as it will be easier as I will not have the stress of looking for clients’. I now realize how wrong I was. I will definitely work for a consultancy as according to me; a PR career is about meeting new people and creating new ideas. Working for a company will not allow you to do so as much, but working for a consultancy, will allow you to meet different clients with different objectives and views and for me THAT is PR!

During these three years, I guess like most of you, I did have some doubts about me working in PR. But today I am sure that this is what I want to do, this is where I belong.

For the rest of you starting, or still doing your internships, I wish you all the best and I hope that you will enjoy as much as I did.

As to help you, here are some interesting articles I found on a Facebook Page: PR NEWS.

I wish you all the best and make the most of it.

Hi Isabelle,

Great to hear you enjoyed your placement! I can relate to you completely. Before my internship at a consultancy I also thought I would prefer to work in-house. However, I found that not only is it more exciting to work in a consultancy as you get to use your own ideas but it is great to work with more than one client. I also found that you have to be creative and versatile as some ideas that are great for one client but may not work the same for another.

I enjoyed reading about your experience!
