Unbelievable right?
I was excited to do this unit, because I was able to get some 'real world' experience from it, which would hopefully aide my quest to get a job in my chosen profession. Then I could get a job and, maybe feel it wasn't for me and travel and come back and find a job again. That was kind of the plan after doing this unit, but now things have changed.
10 days into the internship, I get a contract to become a full time employee. So that's where I am. An employee at RugbyWA or the Western Force. As to how this came about, I can only put it down to one thing, my attitude. Growing up I've always been told, you're told to do something, just do it. Or something like that, I don't know. All I know is that, no matter the task, if I'm asked to do it, I'll do it and I won't complain and I'll do it to the best of my ability.
I could be wrong. But that doesn't matter.
Rugby is and has always been my favourite sport and to be working at the only rugby office in WA and to interact with the players is something I could only dream of doing.
Although I am not in a PR role, partnerships is pretty much PR. I write up speeches, social media posts, advert blurbs, run and organise events. All of this is seen and heard by the public, but this is for the partners of RugbyWA, we need to acknowledge our partners, because without them RugbyWA would not be able to operate to its full capacity, as it is a non-for-profit.
So for those of you who have come to an end of your internship, don't limit yourself to just looking for a role in PR. Look at other roles which incorporate what you have learned in class, because it might just be what you want.
Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students. Please also see http://http://printernship-reflections2.blogspot.com.au/ for more reflections.

Hi there,
I just want to say congratulations for being offered your dream job. Everything happens for a reason and this is only the beginning.
When I started my internship I had the exact same plan to go travelling and then look for a job, however being given the opportunity you were given you can now start your future and not have that added pressure of looking for a job, particularly in this highly competitive industry.
I think it is a really good idea to do as much work experience as possible because who knows, an opportunity to become an employee is possible, which is exactly what happened to you!
Well done! Good luck with your future and all the best.

Hi Richard,
Congratulations on the job offer! Such a great outcome, but it sounds like you definitely earned it.
My placement was within a not-for-profit too and I noticed how the lines separating departments are blurred. There wasn't even a public relations position at my organisation but there were definitely plenty of PR techniques being used so that's really opened my eyes to considering other jobs just like you.
Hope the rest of the semester goes well for you.
Kelsey
Wow congratulations! Being offered an internship after only being their for 10 days is AMAZING!! I am so happy for you!
I completely agree with you, attitude is everything. If you go into a working environment being positive and illustrating your willingness to learn and get the job done, you will stand out.
I have be praised by my supervisor that I have a great attitude at my internship. People really do notice someones attitude and how hard they are willing to work.
It's funny how you learn that the smaller, little things that you thought people didn't notice actually equate to being quite important.
This Internship Unit has definitely opened my eyes to what future and current employers are looking for.
Once again congratulations and I wish you luck next year!
:)

Hi Richard,
I was reading your post and it was really easy to see why you were given the job. The enthusiasm you show can be felt through everything you have written here.
I couldn't agree with you more when you say if you are asked to do something just do it. I play a lot of sport myself and I've always been of the belief that if someone is doing their best than that is all you can ask. Doing something wrong is fine and most employers will be able to assist and train you to make sure you complete tasks correctly but what they can't teach is a good attitude.
Well done on the new job and all the best for the future.
Regards,
Damon Bull
Hey Richard,
Congratulations! Posts like yours make me so happy because it just reinforces the idea that you can find work doing something you love if you really put your mind to it and are willing to go that extra mile!
Going from intern to employee in 10 days is pretty impressive, just goes to show how much difference having a positive attitude can make.
I completely agree with what you are saying about PR spanning across different roles. I was having a conversation with my boss at internship the other day about the different places that PR can take you and how it may not always be a job clearly labelled as part of a PR team, seems like you're another example.
All the best, I hope it works out well for you!
Naomi
