Fact sheets, backgrounders, media kits, designing and writing website content.. all in a days work.

Hi all,

I am coming to the end of my internship in a few weeks and with this means more responsibility.
My placement is also going through an excitement period of change and re-branding therefore there are lots of tasks for me to be doing!

Firstly think back to PR Techniques.... A long time ago for most of you. Do you remember writing fact sheets and backgrounders? Well guess what I was asked to write my first ever real life fact sheet and backgrounder. As we have been receiving more press lately my placement has asked me to develop these for particular media outlets. I even packaged and constructed a media kit for a local fashion blogger who has been photographing and talking about our products. As public relations is sometimes free advertising these fact sheets and backgrounders make the media outlets job in creating the content as easy as possible. It also makes sure that information is as controlled as possible and that all information remains correct and up to date.

As the business is going into a re-branding phase our first job was to re-do our website. This has been so interesting as I also study internet communications. My placement has allowed me to both design the website and write the websites content which enabled me to utilise both my degree skill sets. I was conscious to create a website which is both easy to digest as well as a website which reflects the brand and once which will speak to our publics. I also remember doing mock-up websites in PR techniques! It is interesting how each small decision on a website can have such a large impact on the target market.

I am now looking forward to the rest of my placement and seeing the website and other media collaborations i have organised to come to life!

Until next time,

Kelvin
