Office Dilemmas at Variety WA!

At Variety they use children who have been helped by the Charity as ambassadors. These children go to events and show the community how Variety has helped them. This morning I had the task of calling one of the child ambassadors parents to ask if they would allow us to photograph their child for our upcoming newsletter. I called them and had no answer. Two hours later the father called back and left a message saying his wife has had a very bad stroke a few weeks ago and is still in hospital. I felt terrible!

Today I also got to witness how important communications are in a office environment. Their is third party fundraising event being held for Variety called ''Lama Las Vegas", at Lama Bar in Subiaco. The event is in two days and the main office contact staff for the event is off sick, and hasn't left much information for the other event staff to pick it up from where she left it. Another employee had to attend a meeting for the staff member that was sick but had no event plan/information to take! This dilemma shows how important it is to share communications because this can happen in an office any time and stresses out people who aren't involved in the event.

Today Variety accepted a check from McDonald's community cinemas for just over $90,000!
Next week is my last week, its going to be sad to leave such an amazing charity that helps thousands of children!

Hey Hannah,

That's a great point you bring up about the importance of communication in the workplace. This is especially crucial to prepare for unexpected events, like they did in your case. There's nothing worse than going to a meeting unprepared!

I've heard of a great site called Trello which helps you to collaborate with others to organise your projects. This is a great tool that can be used to keep everyone informed of whats going on so they are constantly in the loop, which can be handy in case any unforeseen incidents occur. I've left the link below, so you can have a see for yourself!

I hope you enjoy your last week!

Hi Hannah,

Just like the comment above by Tahlia, I also would like to thank you for bringing up the importance of communication in your workplace. I have a habit of doing things independently without letting anyone knows, but over the past three years I've learnt that communication is key to maintaining relationships both personally and in Public Relations.

Hi Hannah! I think you made a good point about the importance of communication. Sharing information amongst colleagues keeps everyone informed and aware of whats going on. Besides that, I think that a sociable work environment also contributes to the all rounded energy of the space.

Not for profit organizations such as the one that you had your placement in is an amazing opportunity to be involved with dedicated individuals that are true to the cause ! I think that's a great feeling to be a part of that. Hope you enjoyed your PR placement!
