Junior Badminton Tournament in Victoria Park

Hi! Third blog post for now. And also in the middle of (not exactly, slow progress) the BIG assignment. Seriously have no idea how to do it but yea we will finish it, eventually, I always believe that due date is the motivation. Jokes! :p

Okay, back to my internship. So, the junior badminton tournament was my idea. I presented it to the Management team of DFBC during our last meeting and YAY it was scheduled to be held in Vic Park Leisurelife Centre on the 3rd and 10th of October. And I was super excited.

So for this event, we got sponsored by the centre and we had around 5 courts for the whole tournament for free.

I went to help on the 10th of October because I could not make it on the 3rd of October. When I reached there, the kids were already starting to warm up and a friendly lady talked to me as we waited for my supervisor to arrive. Little did I know the lady was actually the sponsor of our rental fees for the event! I was so thankful for her generosity and being so devoted in promoting physical activities to kids at their very young age.

So the event went well we raised quite an amount of fund. What truly makes me happy is their parents of those young kids actually stayed with them throughout the whole tournament, cheering for them. I'm sure with their parents' support they could really become really good at badminton.

And apart from raising fund, that's what the tournament is for- promotes physical activities and also gets parents to be more involved with what they kids love, strengthens the bonds between them. And I'm truly happy that the event successfully achieved both objectives.

And organising an event is tiring! Especially because I have never scheduled a tournament timetable for all the player. You have to consider their ages, skills levels and so many other factors. And most importantly, you have to make sure they learn something and have fun, as they are all really young and they are just beginners.

Then on the day of the tournament, you have to make sure they would start and finish on time as we only had one and a half hour each day. I am thankful for my colleagues for helping me out during the day- calling the kids to get into courts and start the games, recording their scores, being the lines judges and umpires, Thank you so much!

So the event ran smoothly and winners got to win trophies, rackets (sponsored by Ashaway) and medals. We made sure every kid gets their prizes as this was just a friendly and social tournament. It wasn't competitive and we just hope the kids had fun and learnt the basic serving rules of badminton.

I did not get to stay after the event as I myself had a badminton session to go to (yea I just love badminton that much :p)

However I had fun organising events and working together with my colleagues! :)

I've certainly learnt a lot from this event and this makes me even more sure of my choice of being a PR person.  I really like doing stuff related to PR and I am so glad that I am able to help.

Time to sleep! To conclude, I just have to say, really, do what you love, and you will never have to work a single day in your life anymore. To those who are still doing their internship, good luck! And those who are struggling for their reports (as I am), all the best too! Till my last blog post! Bye :)
