Monday Blues enough ?

Greetings everyone. I am Atiya and it is nice to meet all of you here and hope all are well. I am currently doing my internship at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri and yesterday (02/03) was my first day !

I am pretty sure that everyone of you here are familiar with newspaper cutting. And that was my first task assigned at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri.

Recently, Pustaka Negeri Sarawak, Miri with the Gading Kenyalang Sdn Bhd. had a project together named, Hornbills Heritage Week or "Minggu Warisan Bumi Kenyalang" (in Malay). This project is to create awareness on the importance of preserving cultural heritage in rural area. They have a lot interactive programmes for this prestigious event such as talk on Pua Kumbu (hand-woven of the Iban tribe), demonstrations on the traditional "Hand-Tap Tattoo" and the highlight of the event was the Miri City Idol Search 2015.

Hence, yesterday onwards, I will;
1) Search and cut the news about the event in newspapers
2) Hand over to my supervisor to look through
3) Paste the newspaper cutting with details such as Newspaper, Date and Page of News.
4) Stack it according to dates (old to new)
5) Ready for filing.

My supervisor then, will do records on the newspaper cutting. The reason for the filing of newspaper cutting is for Pustaka's monthly statistic report on the amount of press release were made for this particular event and Pustaka. Also, for reference in the future about the past projects that Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri have done.

It sounds pretty easy, right ? But if you have done it, I am pretty sure you know how dragging it is ! It took me 4 and a half hours to complete it as I have to browse through 5 newspapers (English, Malay and Chinese) dated from the beginning of  February until now. Furthermore, we are expecting for a full page article about the event as this event is close related to the Sarawak's history, hence, resulting in searching for the article or press release every now and then.

Even though my first day was time consuming and putting effort cut and paste of the newspaper cutting, it actually give me an insight on the style of the reporters writing a press release or article.

My first day turn out well, hope to continuously have it through out this internship. And I hope the same to all of you.

That's it for now, take care !

Hi Atiya Nurain,

Your blog title triggered my attention, but i would probably have preferred another title for this specific post.

Your post is interesting, since me too i had to do some "newspaper cutting", they called this task "media monitoring" in the company where i did my internship. I found this task really interesting, cause you get to know how the media are influencing your company's reputation. It can be at time quite time consuming if there is a lot of articles but still i enjoyed doing this task. Further enjoyed it when i got my new release published :)

Overall, i enjoyed your post.

Wish you good luck for the future.
