As the semester
is starting to wrap up, so is my internship at Skye Gilligan Consulting. As I have passed the halfway mark I am
starting to see my work being used and published. This is such a great feeling!
Knowing the hard work is paying off.
I am starting
to notice a difference in my self from when I first started. At the beginning I was a bit nervous and
unsure abut what I was doing and so I was slower. Now I can see I am much more
confident and becoming faster at getting the jobs I’m allocated done as well as
what is expected of me.
Skye has been
great at leading me and setting a great example of how to interact with
clients. I have now been to quite a few different client meetings. Each client is different and expects
different things. The best way to make sure you are delivering what the client
wants is to be prepared for meetings. Knowing a bit about what they expect can
help you to prepare – emailing them and creating good lines of communication
with them is key. At the meeting I have found making notes helps to make sense
of things later. Skye has a diverse range of clients in different industries
such as oil and mining, I don’t have much prior knowledge to these industries and
the types of jargon they use, this can be tough when writing newsletters or
blogs and require an amount of research to be done. Making notes of language the client uses in
meetings for this type of area is helpful as I am able to learn when I t is appropriate
to be used and what it all means.
Im still having
a great time, and a bit sad its wrapping up.

It sounds like you are learning a lot at this consultancy Gillian.
It is a shame that our time in our internships is ending and we now have to face the real world alone, but it seems that you will be well prepared. :)
You give good advice on the importance of taking notes where you can as it helps you in the long run. I found this for myself, not knowing much about the education industry and knowing even less about the work involved with getting a business off the ground.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your time at Skye Gilligan Consulting and make the most of your amazing opportunity.
I had the same feeling at the start, unsure of what i am doing and working
much slower then what i am now.
But just the other day my mentor said to me, you've really grown more, and
were starting to see the really you as you've become more confident.
And i think its good that it shows not only through your work but also it
makes days at work so much more easier and defiantly going to make it harder to leave.
