Playing Postman Pat, Published Pieces and Pics with Perthonalities

Wow! What a crazy couple of weeks it has been at HBF. So much has happened, is happening and is yet happen, I don’t even know where to begin. But allow me try pluck out the parts that have been a real highlight or given me some valuable industry experience.

Playing Mr Postie
Last week I was busy Instagram-ing (or stalking, some might say) well-regarded foodies, health and wellness, fitness and lifestyle bloggers based in Perth (Shae Bolton, Rayne Embley, Louise Pillidge might ring a bell). I sent out individual emails to see if they were interested in or already participating in the HBF Run for a Reason. For those interested, I sent out a starter box with all the essentials to get ready for the HBF Runf for a Reason (even a FitBit!). In turn, these fantastic bloggers posted pictures with their starter kits or in training with the hashtag ‘#hbfrun’. This activity really showed me the perks of Instagram as a professional platform to help companies engage with publics on a more personal level.

Published Pieces
As a health partner, HBF provide The West with credible information for various features. Alongside one other, I got to go into a teleconference with the Editor Andrew Shipp and Journalist Kristen Watts for The West. We discussed what content they wanted for the annual ‘Health + Medicine Winter Edition’ lift out and I got busy working on providing the content for the stories ‘on track this season’ and ‘mix and match’. The lift out was published in The West on Wednesday13 May and you could say I reveled when I saw some of my work contributing to the overall stories.

This was valuable experience in how to talk professionally with journalists (who know what to say to get what they want) and in turn, have stories published that HBF will have recognition for – great for the company’s reputation!

Pics with Perthonalities
Saturday 9 May I was involved in the ‘Pop Up T-shirt Day’ event held in a marquee in Forrest Chase (Perth City). Participants were able to come have their HBF tops customised with their name, have photos taken on the ‘blue carpet’ with special guests including former MKR contestants and West Coast Eagles player Scott Selwood. I was running the photo booth stall which meant lots of smiles, getting the kids involved and taking plenty of photos… of course I managed to get behind the lens for a quick snap with Scotty!

This was such an exciting day and a great way to experience the hype in running events. It helped making me feel more competent in myself working within the industry and broadened my experience in PR. The day was a real hit and I received positive feedback about my involvement on the day.

But for now, it is heads down as there’s plenty of preparation in the lead up to the big HBF Run for a Reason which is now less than 2 weeks away. I can’t wait to share with you after the big day!

Hi Ashleigh,

Sounds like you're having a great time at HBF and the instagram idea is really innovative and clever idea to promote the event. It's also great to see some of the things you worked on being published or used in a professional way. That sense of achievement goes a long way to feeling comfortable in any internship I have found.

I also can relate to this as I recently drafted a media release for Main Roads regarding road closures for the HBF Run for a Reason. I had to look at various event details and times to make sure I had the right information and that it was clear and easy to understand. It was a great exercise and I found the event website really easy to navigate and gave all the relevant information I needed.

Enjoy the rest of your time at HBF and good luck!
