My PR internship experience taught me a valuable lesson about work, which was that for me personally, I need to be in a job that I truly feel passion about and that I love 100%. Lets be honest, I know all of you can relate. No one wants to get up on that daily grind and leave their warm bed for a job they despise. Not only that, but if you were my staff member I wouldn't want a half hearted team member in my office! Statistics show you'll be much less productive than someone who actually wants to be there. Without further ado I present to my fellow interns 4 handy tips for getting that job you will truly be passionate about.
Tip #1- Reach out and get in contact with companies that you admire or would be keen to understand more with some work experience. Don't just get on seek and apply for every grad job you come across because it has a salary and because a 'job is a job'
Tip 2#- Be Patient. Again don't stress out because your fresh out of uni and jobless. Dream jobs or good jobs don't just pop up on seek daily. Keep calm and apply for jobs that take your interest.
Tip 3#- Keep in contact with your internship placement staff. Who knows, if you loved working there and they loved you, then if a job comes up you may be able to fill it! Its all about who you know, not what you know in the world of PR.
Tip 4#- When looking for a job or checking out job descriptions, make sure you read and see if the job applies to your career goals or even what you want to gain as experience. Do you like travelling? If so does the job provide travel? Are you searching for a salary that also provides a bonus? What about actually making a difference, do you want to work for a not for profit, or for profit company? How about your holidays, would 12 annual days leave do it for you or would you prefer 12?
Tip 5#- Okay so if you are in a job you hate (even if its casual/part time retail), try and find all the positives that will help you in your next job. For example, customer service skills are such a strong attribute to have and always looks great on a resume!
I hope this gives you something to think about when applying for your future jobs. Like so many great men and women have said, if you are in a job you love, you'll never have to work a day in your life.

Hi Bec
How I'd love to never have to work a day in my life but unfortunately we all have to. I think before you get that dream job that feels like it's not even work because it's just so great, you have to go through the ones that aren't so great. I don't really think anyone just lands that 'dream job'. It's all just hard work, dedication and maybe a bit of luck.
I have to agree with your tip though. Sometimes you have to be patient and just keep trying. Hard work always pays off!
Good luck finding that dream job, hope your internship brings you one step closer :)
