So it is my second week here at PPR (Professional Public Relations) and yep you guessed it I am still loving it! but now my work load is slowly creeping up on me...
Before I had even begun my placement at PPR I had a short interview with the Human Resources manager who told me I would be part of the team working on McHappy Day, nervous and anxious I couldn't stop thinking about what it would entail.. now I can safely tell you how much fun it is working on the event.
For those of you who don't know, McDonald's is one of PPR's major clients.. and what do we do to keep clients happy.. we make sure they are satisfied in all aspects of what they require from us. McHappy day is the largest fundraising event which McDonald's hosts and all of the money raised goes straight to the Ronald McDonald House for sick kids and their families in WA. Although it has been a busy week some tasks which I have had to carry out are based around McHappy Day which is happening in all McDonald's stores through out Australia on the 17th October (so if you remember to.. pop in to a Macca's store on the day and donate to a great cause).
With the event creeping up fast, most of the planning and preparation has already begun. I have been asked to call all of the McDonald's stores in WA and ask them what their store is doing on McHappy Day (is there a theme, what talent do they have coming, is it a milestone event for any of their employees ext.) and populate an excel spread sheet. My next task was to then write a media release which my fellow college checked over and then I was asked to send them out to the media- my favourite part of the job! For now we have to wait until we get some responses from the journalists and if we don't hear from them by tomorrow we give them a friendly follow up call to see if they are interested because our main goal here is to get as much coverage as possible!- Exactly some of the techniques I had learnt in PR Techniques in my first year at uni!
I think my key point here is to stay focused and positive and to also have confidence in your work! yes you may be an intern but you too are at the end of a degree where you have learnt a real lot of PR. I look at the placement as using everything I have learnt and putting it in to a real life situation!
Welcome to PR Internship - YOUR opportunity to put everything you have learned over the past years at university into practice and to get a thorough insight into what public relations is like "in the real world". This Blog allows you to reflect on your experiences, share insights with other students across campuses and to possibly give advice and support to fellow students. Please also see http://http://printernship-reflections2.blogspot.com.au/ for more reflections.

Hi Bayley!
You had to call every McDonald's store in WA? I don't even want to imagine how many phone calls that would've taken. It does sound like a great project to be involved with though, everyone knows what McHappy Day is and it means you get to put your work towards a great cause.
I also definitely agree with what you've said about staying positive and having focus in your work. I think that if you're not, people can tell straight away & it also means that you're not presenting your best work which can then let down your client or your organisation.

Hey Bayley!
Wow, like Zoe commented earlier, I can't believe you had to call every McDonalds store in WA. That would have been super time consuming. What an awesome cause to be calling up about though.
I found that in my internship when I was making phone calls at the start I was super nervous, often lost with what to say having a few mental blanks. By the end of my placement I was like a robot knowing exactly what to say to the media off by heart. Did you find this too?
Glad you had a good time and all the best for the future,
Rebecca Foster
