Snapchat, lnstagram, Facebook, Tumblr, we
are addicted to taking snaps. From Kim Kardashian’s Selfless to Ellen’s Grammy
record, we are a society that is obsessed and crave esteem from the number of
likes on our latest upload. If it’s not on Instagram it never really
happened right?
Businesses are using this to their
advantage. We love to share pictures and videos so it only makes sense that businesses
also adopt this mindset.
At RFL this theory has come into practice.
The posts that get the highest reach are images and videos. Our ‘Where’s Dougal’ was a HIT! In brief the beloved
RFL mascot Dougal is a clear favourite so we placed him on a weight loss
journey to ‘fight back’ against cancer, inviting the audience to guess what
healthy café he was at to win a voucher at the featured destination. This was
lead by a series of home made videos and teasers with a comedic approach to
build up hype around the competition.
Before we knew it the likes rolled in, even inspiring teams to take
their own photos with Dougal. I have
attached a few images from our competition below. Can you guess where Dougal
is?

From this I leant that no matter what
industry you are in, we are all in the entertainment industry now. If your content
fails to meet the creative wants of consumers, prepare to be another piece of
clutter. The key message I have learnt is to make creative content that people
WANT to watch and engage with, which generally involves human or a subject
presence. Evidence shows that compelling
images get a 94% more reach, so incorporate this into strategy. Look at what competitors
are doing and gauge what is getting a great response. Take this as inspiration
and create something FRESH and surely you will get the results.
Until next time,

Hey Kayla,
Great blog. I loved that you included some pictures from the campaign -
It is a really creative idea to get selfies with the RFL mascot.
In PR you definitely have to be creative and this idea obviously worked well!
Having competitions for the social media followers that win is a great way of getting people involved.
Also - great you left a link for readers to go to get more information.
Title was attention grabbing and drew me to read.
You have an engaging style of blog writing (have you considered journalism)?
Best of luck for the future,
Greta.
