MANY TURNS 2! Last day blues

My last day at Spacemarket turned out to be on MANY's second birthday party and I couldn't have asked for a better send off!

We had been preparing for the event for a while now and everything was coming together. We had designed information pamphlets, done flyer drops, contacted media, bloggers, arranged a photographer but I was still scared, would anyone show?

Setting up on the day and making sure that everything arrived on time, such as the DJ, food, beverages was fun and the whole place was bustling as the retailers made sure their shop spaces looked spick and span.

Contingency measures were taken when the donated drinks didn't arrive on time! No problem, we popped down to the bottle shop and picked up four extra cartons.

And then people started to arrive!

As they slowly trickled in it started to feel like it was going to be a success. There was a good crowd and people  and they looked like they were really enjoying themselves. It is was only now that I could relax. I felt like we had succeeded and it was time to enjoy the party too. Here is a picture of a friend and myself at the birthday...

I was pleasantly surprised when the person I had been working under pulled my aside and gave me a lovely gift. She has taught me so much and it was just the most lovely gesture, I could not thank her enough for the experience.

Me with my mentor and coworker...

And that's a wrap! The party was over and my internship was over. I hope that I get to work on further projects with everyone at Spacemarket and MANY as it was a great experience and I learnt a lot!

Thanks for reading.

Best,
Gemma

Hi Gemma

I heard a lot of good things about MANY's second birthday so it must of been a great event. I've never worked on an event before, but I can definitely understand the fear of wondering if anybody will show up, even if you've done all the promoting possible. I'm glad it was a success though, it's a great way to show you that all the work you've done has been worth it!

Hi Gemma,
It sounded like you had a great internship experience! I never had the chance to organise an event but it was great to hear how you dealt with organising the event! I never realised how much went into it....... pamphlets, flyer drops, contacting the media, arranging everything? That all sounds so stressful and i can understand why you were so scared about people showing up! Did you have a rough idea of how many people were going to turn up? I've always wondered especially when catering is involved- how do you predict and apply the worst/best case scenario? You never want to under or over provide, but i guess more is best :) Thank you for sharing your experience with me, it was a great read!!

Hi Gemma,

Sounds like you had a great time there!! All you photos are so cute! I think anyone organising an event has those nerves at first but when people start turning up they go away. I haven't got the experience to organise an event before and would love to after seeing your experience. Im glad everything went well for you there!

Best wishes,

Ellie

Thanks everyone for your support!

In regards to your comment Caris, we had a rough idea of who was going to attend because we made a Facebook invite. We did however take into account that many people click attending to everything and therefore expected about half and we were right :) In the end we supplied just the right amount of food and drinks however if we hadn't I guess this is when contingency planning comes in. We were around the corner from a bottle shop if we ran out of drinks and we had a food truck out the front that could just keep pumping out made to order meals so we were pretty covered. They are good points to note though. I guess the most important thing to remember is to have a back up plan!

Gemma
