Social Media- It’s a lifestyle!

For many of us who grew up in the age of social media, it's nothing new.
Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Tumblr, is something that seems to come naturally to most of us. Like many of you I am an avid instagrammer and Facebook user, continually checking and keeping updated with the lives of others and updating fellow followers with mine. During my time so far at Magnetize it has opened my eyes to a whole new world of social media and the time and effort put in into perfecting the perfect post. At Magnetize social media is big part of the daily routine, controlling several client social media accounts takes a lot of time and concentration. As part of my internship I was required to create a plethora of social media posts, below are some of my top tips that I have picked up along the way.

1.    Keep things short and sweet- There is nothing worse than having to read an essay on Facebook or Instagram, keeping things short will ensure that you retain the reader's interest whilst getting your point or message across in a timely manner.

2.    Create quality content- When creating a post it is important to choose articles, videos and other content carefully, as it always important to ensure that you are creating quality content. But what is quality content? Basically it is content that is Informative, Sharable, Actionable and Relevant to the target audience. The first step to mastering quality content is to understand your audience and what their interest are.

3.    Keep on top of current trends - Everyone loves to follow trends and be up to date with what's hot and what's not! And this doesn't just apply to fashion. Finance, property, insurance and health are all industries that must keep up to date with what is currently trending and happening within that market, keeping your followers updated is a sure fire way to retaining and gaining a follower interest.

4.    Be constant with your posts- Having a social media schedule is key to keeping audiences interested. Spending a few hours creating a large supply of social media posts on various topics will ensure you have something to post every day, second day or week depending on what suits that client. Creating these posts in advance allows you to put them in a post schedule where they can be automatically uploaded anytime.

In a developing technological world, social media will continue to grow and remain as a  staple part of Public Relations. My internship has taught me that placing a large importance on social media can determine how successful a business becomes. In order to satisfy and keep customers and clients updated, a business must enter the social media game and ensure that social media becomes a part of the everyday workings within a business.

Hey Esther,
What a great blog!

I think it worked really well how it was structured, and i loved that you shared an insight into some tips you learnt/ picked up during your internship!

Social media is becoming such a large aspect in the PR industry and it definitely contributes to the success of a business. For example, at my work they post pictures of weekly food specials on Instagram and with a large follower base i believe it is successful as people come in asking for a meal which they had seen on social media.

As a recommendation - maybe give an example of a post you did yourself at your internship, would loved to have seen one!

Hey Ester,

I really enjoyed your blog post!

I could definitely see similarities in your tips to what i have understood as being effective during my experience with social media. From your tips i personally believe quality and creative content is the best approach when engaging an audience and building a social media profile. Such an important aspect for PR professionals to consider when maintaining social media profiles for clients.

Another tip i could add is utilising peak times in posts. I hope everyone takes these insights on board as they set a straightforward basis for practitioners to follow.
