Truthfully, when we were taught in tutorial classes regarding budgeting, I always take it lightly and somehow had the impression that calling up certain companies to ask them for a price quotation is an easy task. I had no clue that it takes a couple of days before the other party gets back to us.
Last Friday, I was told by my supervisor to assist her in getting price quotations on certain items for the companies annual budgeting. Practically, the whole department was counting and calling up various companies for certain quotations that they need.
I was delegated 16 items that needed to be quoted and then drafting it all out in a spreadsheet. I searched certain items online while making a couple of phone calls and asking for a price quotation. It was all needed to be done by Tuesday.
I could instantly feel the tension arises when I called up a printing company and was told that the guy who can give me the quotation of the items is out for a business meeting and will only be back in the office on Monday. I was pretty tensed up by then and told my supervisor about it.
Thank god today (Monday) all the quotations came in and I could pass it to my supervisor for her budgeting allocations. Is National Volunteers Week/Day tomorrow and the organisation is going to treat all its volunteers for morning snacks as well as free screening of “Made of Honor”. Am glad I could help out in this fruitful event.
Three days to go and I will be done with my placement. I guess I might ask if I can continue till end of this month as I am actually enjoying my work experience there

Extending your placement is a very wise decision. 20 days is just the bare minimum, as required by PRIA as part of the accreditation of your degree – however, longer industry experience will not only provide you with more insight and knowledge (not to mention confidence!), but it will also set your CV apart from the rest of graduates that may have only covered the minimum requirements.

Thanks Katharina! Budgeting is not as easy as I thought it would be. *phew* glad it all worked out fine.
I took your advice to extend my placement as I know I can gain more experience and learn more things from it before making sure that PR is what I would want to do once I graduate this semester.
Other than listening to your advice, it has been fun working in this organisation and I would love to learn more from it.
