Today was 'technically' my last day of my placement at Curtin Alumni. I am continuing to work there, however my 20 days ends today!
I could not have asked for a better place or a better group of people to do my first real paying PR job. They have guided me and yet given me responsibility.
What have i been doing? Well, I have been interviewing Alumni, working on events, working on posters... and gosh so much more.
Today I was able to secure some signed copies of one of our Alumni's books - oh I'll give em a plug - Simon Haynes 'Hal Spacejock' series (seeing as they were so kind). I was also able to send my posters for print - so I'll be printing them ready for open day! Exciting!... And just some more odds and ends getting ready for open day and our November edition of CurtinLink.
What have I learnt?... That writing for publications is all about structure, rules, style and limits; that some things take more time than you expect because everyone is important and everyone is busy; Check, re-check and check again, and then send it off to be checked just that once more, because there is always room for improvement; Ask lots of questions early on; Ummm... and finally don't feel insecure. Trust that you can do it, because you can without a doubt.
With that advice, I say goodbye and good luck to those still at their placement, and with a little bit of luck we will all be alumni soon too!!

Well I am really too looking forward to be on my last day because ‘reconciliating’ work and studies is not always easy but its though fine.
You mentioned three things that were really interesting and true. Structure/style/ limits.
I’ve made that experience last week when I was asked to write a backgrounder for the MPA. The PR officer there corrected some ’surplus’ words, change a bit the structure and finally add his own wording in some areas.
When I looked at the backgrounder again after his corrections, I found that I really neglected these three complementary elements when writing..
