Hi everyone,
I am Angela from the Mauritian campus. I started my internship since 4 weeks already and I have to this date completed 10 working days. The company at which i am doing my internship is ProaktivPR, a newly established Public Relations and Corporate communication firm designed to help corporate customers with strategies to enhance their brand, standing and image.
Since the company has been established only a few months ago, for instance it only has one permanent corporate client which is British Airways Travel. ProaktivPR is responsible for the whole communication of British Airways Travel in Mauritius. Including myself, there are only three people at ProaktivPR, the Senior Partner and the PR Executive. The company is a home office and the athmosphere is therefore very warm and welcoming.
One of the tasks assigned to me is doing the press cuttings for British Airways Travel, then prepare a a press book for ProaktivPR records and another press book for the Country Manager of British Airways. This is done everymorning. Then, I also help the PR executive to prepare a weekly report which shows the activities done by ProaktivPR during the week, such as sending Press Releases or organising an event, as well as the coverage British Airways Travel obtained from the Mauritian media. It also contains the forthcoming activites planned for British Airways Travel in Mauritius such as events or sponsorship programs. The weekly report has to be sent every Saturday to PromaxPR, a public relations consultancy firm in Dubai which is responsible for the whole communication of British Airways Travel in the African Region. A monthly report as well has to be sent to PromaxPR at the end of each month to report the coverage which British Airways Travel obtained in the Mauritian media. Apart from the press cuttings and the reports, I also help the PR Executive to write the press releases and call journalists to maintain good media relations.
ProaktivPR is also working on another program, the vegetal pen, to attract new clients. The vegetal pen is a biodegradable and ecofriendly pen which is proposed to companies to integrate as part of their CSR to enhance their image. The PR Excutive is working on preparing the pitch.
So, here is what i have done so far.
Cheers

Hello angela!
You sure seem to be doing a lot of interesting things. Many companies here do not have a PR department and they prefer to hire a communication firm to do their PR stuff. You are very lucky to be associated to a company like british airways and this will only bring you experience. Press cuttings and media clippings are very popular huh as everyone is doing it during their internship...It may be simple and yet time consuming but many companies consider it as an important matter.
Wishing you good luck for your report...
Farah
Hello Farah,
you are right, the press cuttings do not form part of the most interesting tasks and are very time consuming but they are extremely important for the company. It helps the company to have a record of all the media coverage it obtained and also the media coverage of the industry in which the company operates and these records can be very useful when the company has to trace back past coverages or events.
Good luck to you as well for your report.
Angela
Hi Angela!!
I understand what you mean when you say that press cuttings are not part of the most interesting tasks! As you, I did my internship in a communication / PR agency and I spent a lot of time doing press review documents for different clients. However, as Farah and yourself have written, it is very important to monitor the image of the client you are working for.
Moreover, at Totem, the company where I did my internship, we also use the press clipping to do a media tracking. This imvolves measuring the lenght and width of each article so as to evaluate the money value of the media exposure obtained.
During my internship, I Learned that every PR tasks even the smallest one has its importance!
I wish you good luck for the internship days left!
Regards,
Celine

I do not know but when i was doing it for PR 250, it was too good. I really loved it.
