Embarking on Trip 1 with Odysseus: The Grand Mauritian Resort & Spa.

During my very first days at the consultancy, I was already drenched up in working mood of the company. In fact, both the Public Relations department and the Event Management department were busy with activities relating to the big launch of The Grand Mauritian Resort &Spa, a five-star resort located at Balaclava, on the North-west coast of Mauritius.

The phone ringing endlessly, fax machine buzzing incessantly, people talking all the time, this was the atmosphere around me. At the very beginning, seeing everyone busy with their own thing made me feel rather estranged but gradually when I started indulging myself with the hustle and bustle, I got the buzz of it all and things went on for the best. I was responsible for the proper dissemination of press-releases to the various media outlets, inviting journalists for a press lunch organized before the launching of The Grand Mauritian. This was a rather hectic but important thing to do and it was a rather good start for me. I must admit that it was not always easy to reach the targeted journalists who very often were busy and unreachable. However, it was my first experience in dealing with media people and it is always good to learn how things are in real practice.

I was very glad to accompany the Director of the consultancy to the Press Lunch at The Grand Mauritian, Balaclava, who believed that this could be an enriching experience for me, and it indeed was. On the site, I was given the task of confirming the presence of representatives of different media outlets at the press-lunch. It was quite rewarding to see the arrival of the journalists who responded positively to the dissemination of the press-releases. It was a good opportunity for me to meet with the journalists and photographers and getting the contact list updated. After a short press visit of the resort by the personnel, members of the press were treated with a real gastronomic and fine cuisine lunch, during which I observed how good contacts were made by managers of the resort with the press people. Undoubtedly, building up a positive image can only be favorable of good media coverage.

At the end of the day, the press lunch turned out to be a very efficient tactic and the launching of The Grand Mauritian was a success and has eventually gained consistent media coverage, something which has boosted my media clippings record.

That’s all for today folks!!!

Wow you sure had the opportunity to attend very glamourous events. I think that event management is one of the main services that most out house consultancy offers. You have described accurately the planning of the event in your post from the monitoring and invitations sent to journalists till the attendance to the event. Personally i think that all the pre event preparations are very important in terms of scheduling and planning but yet you dont really witness your hard work untill you attend the event. I have seen the articles on the inaguration of the Grand Mauritian in various media outlets and I can tell that it has been a sucessful event very classy and professinal at the same time. So congratulations on your hard work

Cheers
