Public relations placement.

Hi everybody,

I hope everybody have got their placement and already settling down now. Let me tell you my story. I was back at my home country in Malaysia for 3 months holiday, and I thought that I should do my internship in Malaysia. So I choose AirasiaX for my Public relations placement. I got it and they put me in Department of people and law. Not exactly the department I want. But they told me that I will also be involved with their communications team. So I said to myself, yeah why not, it's an experience. Working at AirasiaX was pretty busy, I have to handle customers' email and response to them, check the incoming and outgoing flight, did some ground operations and also did some of the budgeting for the employees’ accessories. I was wondering, I did not do much of public relations tasks, so I confronted my boss and asked her if I can get involved with the communications team works. The next day, she introduced me to the communications team leader, I had a conversation with her and she said I could help with their upcoming events and asked me to work in Airasia until March or April because most of their upcoming event is happening on March. But I could not stay there longer because I have to come back to Perth to continue for my final semester. It's a good experience working at AirasiaX, I make friends and gain more knowledge in that department.

I came back to Perth and started searching for an organisation that I could do my public relations internship, thanks to Katharina for providing us with the work experience opportunity folder in the blackboard. I managed to find a place to do my placement. I emailed Colosoul magazine and they replied my emailed and asked me to come for an interview. I went for the interview and everything when well. I got the placement at Colosoul magzine and they asked me to start working as soon as possible.

My first day working at Colosoul magazine was fantastic, the people there are very friendly and it makes me comfortable to be there. The CEO of Colosoul magazine, Trish talked to me of the overview of the Colosoul magazine and I was impressed. The first task I did at Colosoul magazine is media lists. So I started to write down all the various media which include television, radio, newspaper and magazine. Then check on the website for the numbers so I can call them and get the editor names and email address. Nur Halik the public relations co-ordinator told me that I will be involved with their upcoming events. I'm looking forward for it.

You are fortunate to have got the chance to work for AirasiaX and now Colosoul magazine. Although your previous tasks were not related to public relations, at least you got an insight into how a corporate department works and the experience would undoubtedly enrich your curriculum vitae.

I was also involved with updating the media lists during my internship placement. Though I found the task challenging, it nevertheless improved my communication skills.

Hope the upcoming events would be interesting and turn out smoothly as planned.

I fully agree with Weng: you can never do enough placements. Well done for having a look into different organisations, industries and even countries. This experience - and the insight you are gaining - will be invaluable in your future life as PR professional!

I agree as well! At least you saw different work areas and gain a level up in experience as well! I reckon being at Colosoul now will be quite an experience as well with all the editing and writing! But like I've mentioned before, looking at your own work getting published is a sense of achievement and I hope you see your hard work going into it as well! Do share more of your experience with Colosoul cause I always wonder what is it like working with a magazine firm. Looks really interesting yet I think the many deadlines is also a thing to take note of.
