Getting there....

Hi everyone! As my placement at Colosoul continues, I’m starting to feel the dynamic time that the organisation is facing at the moment. With many events coming up and planning other things just gets everyone to work harder and wanting to accomplish good results at the end.
As I am part of the team now, I’m starting to get use to of the workplace and getting to know the others more. Now Colosoul for me is like a friend, a team and family.

With the last week meeting, I had the chance to meet the rest of the group and getting to know what is on and where Colosoul is at. Surprisingly, there are many events coming up that I haven’t heard of. Mainly is because in Colosoul we’re all divided into groups and each groups organise different event. It excites me, as I am much involved because the events that Colosoul is hosting is a benefit for the community and is something enjoyable and fun.
As I have a strong passion in event management, this placement gives me the opportunity to increase my knowledge in the area and also use some of my knowledge that I have learned.

At the moment I am currently been asked to focus at one of the after party event. Yes its very exciting because this is my opportunity to use what I have learned such as doing the budget. By planning this I am also guide by one of the supervisor, thus I can also adapt their way of planning events. At the same time I am also asked to continue organising the event that I was focusing at the beginning. I’ve been asked to do Bottom up budget and I am glad that “bottom up” sound familiar as I can use my past experience to do it.

I also have adapted the type of work that my supervisor is seeking for. My supervisor is looking for something “catchy, but straight to the point”. Now whenever I’m doing media releases or invitation letters I have to think creative that can grab attentions.

Overall I am enjoying what I’m doing at the moment, it is something I want to do from the start and hoping that I can learn a lot.

Good luck to all -

Colosoul sounds like a great experience! One thing you mentioned which sparked my interest was how separately the different departments work and how this made for surprises. I have found the same thing in my placement, some surprises are good, some not! As a whole it does work quite well, but there can be a lack of communication between departments. This has in my case, led to some wasted resources chasing stories that have already been covered. Have others had any similar experiences?
