I'm 3/4 of the way through my prac, and I can't believe how quickly the time has flown. I have been putting this unit off for so long because the idea really scared me, but so far it's all been great. I'd prefer to be there than my actual part-time where I get paid!
I'm really lucky because my supervisor is the same age and we get on well. She even asks me to check over her work. Then the manager of the communications department is always ready to help out and nothing is ever a hassle to her.
I've still been working mainly on the volunteers strategy so they can involve volunteers and manage the program well enough to retain them! I can't believe how much info is out there about it all, but it's been a big help. It's nice how many people are willing to give their time for free. Tafe students from Joondalup did a work experience placement with my organisation earlier in the year, and then they went on to inspire their class to hold a fundraiser and raise money, which came to over $1000 and they gave the whole thing to us. It's really nice.
Something else I really enjoyed was sitting in on the merchandise meeting with the PR assistant and other members of their group. We brainstormed ideas and the executive management team had approved a big budget for us to put towards merchandise which is exciting. We have lots to work with. I was sitting in the meeting actually enjoying it, and I couldn't help but think how perfect this type of thing for me is!
I've also been lucky to share my experience with another student and we get on well. We drive out to do our school visits to promote inclusion together. We've been out to Armadale and Rockingham, and next week we have Roley Stone. The early mornings are hard but the excitement from the kids always makes it worthwhile. We time the visits to coincide with the assembly times at each school, and seeing as they're usually first thing in the morning, we have to leave extra early to get there in time.
I've haven't got many days left, but the main project I am working on is coming along so hopefully I get it done in time. I've had a couple of meeting with managers and they always provide suggestions and support, and feedback so far has all been really good. I was told I've gone beyond their epxectations so far. That was nice to hear.
Anyway I look forward to what other experiences I have left. I had a hard time thinking of something for concerns for interim update form I had to submit!
I hope everyone is enjoying /enjoyed their time as much as me!
