Today my 20 day internship at CSPR came to an end.
I feel a little empty, a little strange. Where to now? Uni is over and I'm faced with the scary prospect of trying to find a PR job out there in the big, wide, crazy world.
My experiences over my internship have provided me with an interesting insight into the hectic, busy world of the PR consultant. It's not glamorous as Samantha Jones from Sex and the City would lead us to believe, but believe it or not working for CSPR has strengthened my ambition to work in a consultancy and maybe run my own one day. When I told my supervisor this she almost fell out of her chair and was so surprised that I hadn't been put off the industry all together.How could I be but? The PR industry is exciting and with technology heading the way it is the opportunities are endless. I couldnt be more happier to be a budding PR practitioner!
So as I leave university behind I take some valuable lessons with me:
1. Never underestimate the importance of networking! You never know when you might need to call in a favour!
2. Journalists are your best friend. The old saying " you scratch my back and ill scratch yours" could not be more appropriate than between a PR practitioner and a journo
3. Practice makes perfect. I'm not going to be upset when my work gets returned to me with red pen scribbled all over it - its part of the learning experience, that only time can help improve!
4. Nothing is impossible! Even the craziest ideas can come to fruition with a bit of patience and commitment.
It has been a pleasure reading your experiences and I hope you enjoyed reading about mine as much as I enjoyed reading about yours.
