Good Communication is essential for PR.

Hi everyone.It feels better to be back and am glad that am done 3/4 of my internship now and what ive learnt is really a valuable lesson in the real working world. The past six weeks, ive been the casting coordinator for the short documentary, STOKE, that we were shooting. I was incharge of the PR aspects of planning,budgetting and communicating with the various universities in Malaysia in order for us to put up our posters for recruiting potencial candidates for the audition. For three days, ive been busy calling the student services for 5 of Malaysia's best university and asking them if they could allow us to post our advert posters so we could get potencial candidates for our casting.Limkokwing University,Taylors' college,KDU,Nilai college and Inti university college were the five campuses ive called. I was surprised by the way 4 campuses accepted our request and only KDU had declined and said they dont allow posters in their campus.Last Friday,my boss told me that it was the way i communicated with them that enabled us to get the go ahead.He said good communication is important with your external stakeholders. I knew that every company's PR department had to have a good relations with the media as ive learnt in PR250 but it seems the PR department in every company big or small not only have a good relations with the media but with all its external stakeholders including customers,suppliers,lenders and wider societies which influence and are influenced by an organization but are not its internal part. I did not just put up the posters and waited people to call me but i contacted alot more students through facebook and recruited many more by calling them. During this time i prepared enough audition scripts and casting forms for the candidates. I can proudly say that ive learnt one leason which i already studied in class at the real working world and that is GOOD COMMUNICATION IS VERY ESSENTIAL TO PR.. This week was a success but tiring and YES i do miss school and my friends.But as they say,"Patience is bitter but the fruits are sweet" and i have to be patient and make sure i finish the final lap of my placement strong and do well.I hope everyone else is enjoying the placement and having fun.
