Time to Blog

Hi Everyone

My name is Desiree. I'm in my last year of uni, only have one semeser left and PR393 is my last PR unit!

I am currently undertaking a placement at the WA Deaf Society. I started in the first week of June and have been working 3 days a week. Apart from having to work during my uni break :( I am enjoying my placement.

I am apart of the business development section at the organisation which operates more or less like a public relations department as well as having a couple more responsibilites. I work directly alongside the business development manager which is great because I get to do a whole range of different activites including media releases, speech writing, event running sheets, creating promotional handouts, event invites, surveys, annual reports.

The downside of working alongside the manager however is she is really busy and so when I finish my work I feel like I'm bothering her for more work to do, but she is good because she always comes up with something for me to do.

The best thing about my time here is working with the staff. Everyone is so helpful and friendly and I love learning Auslan (Australian Sign Language). Sadly I havnt been able to attedn the weekily classes as I'm no in the office that day but I've picked up the basics.

I've been able to get a good amount of my report done too which is good. One of the good aspects of this organisation is that they are fairly transparent with information so I havn't felt too uncomfortable asking questions.

Hope everyone is going well with their placements. Is there anyone else doing there placemetn at a not-for-profit organisation? It would be good to hear your feedback.

Until next time,
Desiree
