The Gallery and Morrison
Well Monday 7th September was a day that Fremantle owned. The first show of the night featured 12 designers all from the distinctive Fremantle area. Most of these designers had already showcased some of their garments in various shows mainly the WA Designer Collections that was held on Saturday. The labels that featured were:
- Ashe
- Chinky Wooster (I love saying this label!)
- Cocoon Textiles
- Kartique
- Lin Pin
- Loop
- Love In Tokyo
- Mabu
- Mandi Mac
- Plank
- Stiff
- Velvet Sushi.
All of these designers are apart of the Fremantle Collective which is an event that is held in Fremantle and features established and up-and-coming designers from the area.
This show was interesting as there was a lot of jewellery that was on show. Jewellery although as wonderful and breathtaking it might be is a real pain in a fashion show as the garments are so delicate there is a very high chance that the jewellery will pull on the garment. It is for this reason that many of the jewellery designers had assistants backstage so that they were able to put the jewellery on at the last moment. Some of the designers in this parade also had head pieces. Every girl that walked for Lin Pin had a head piece and I have to admit they are more troublesome than any type of jewellery!
Once again once the show was over it was time to pack up the garments, shoes, jewellery, head pieces and accessories and do a speedy change over in order to get ready for the Morrison show. This continued the celebration of the creativity that is developed in the Fremantle area as Morrison is based in Fremantle. This was the very first time in the Perth Fashion Festivals history that Morrison has showcased their collection in an independent runway event. Morrison is an evolving label in the Australian fashion scene a true home grown success story.
The colour palate for their collection was simply black and white/nude. These simply colours gave way to a collection that was elegant, modern, feminine and youthful. The show (from a backstage view) was elegant and beautiful. The show was opened by a man standing on the catwalk singing a mellow yet enchanting song and then the parade started with the black collection. Once all the black garments had been showed it was then time for the singer to perform again while the mood changed to suite the soft subtlety of the creams and nudes that were to follow.
This show was probably my favourite for its understated elegance and charm. The garments were intriguing and left you wanting more of its simplicity and clean lines that were contrasted with the rough urban feel of the venue that is Fashion Paramount. Backstage was a very calm environment for this show and everything just seemed to run so smoothly that it felt surreal when it all ended.
Next blog will be on the Tilted Couture show which was held at The Court Hotel. Till then…
