Hi everyone,
Throughout my time at LunchBox List I have had the opportunity to learn from some amazing women and meet many incredible people that are successful in their industry. For those of you not familiar with LunchBox List, they are a small organisation dedicated to the professional development of women in business in Perth. They develop events that give women the opportunity to network and listen to the career journeys and stories of other women and also events that give women the tools to develop their careers and personal brand.
One of my initial roles at LunchBox List was database management. This may sound boring but with a database of 8000 women this is an extremely important role. I think this is the first piece of advice to those of you who are only just starting your placement. You may be given a job to do that seems irrelevant and dull, however often these are some of the best jobs and that you will often learn the most from. Starting out I did not see how this job was related to Public Relations however I soon realised that it was connected to the very foundations of what I have learnt throughout my degree. Building and managing relationships is crucial and I have had the opportunity to connect with the most important stakeholder of LunchBox List and I have even developed some relationships and contacts of my own. By tracking down those people who had been lost from the database for one reason or another, I am pulling valued clients back in to the organisation. It’s not that these women do not want to hear from LunchBox List but it is because their details have changed or they have remarried ect. In fact most of the women I have spoken to are very happy to be reunited with LunchBox List once again. One of the women I spoke to is actually going to be a guest speaker at an upcoming LunchBox List event. It’s kind of fulfilling knowing that my work is the reason that this is happening.
While fixing the details of those women already on the database I have also been given the role of introducing and adding new women to LunchBox List. This has meant that I have had to clearly communicate the key messages and objectives of LunchBox List to people that have never heard about the organisation. This not only generates business for the company but works towards increasing the awareness of the LunchBox List brand. As I said before while database management appears boring it has actually been quite enjoyable and you never know who you will have the opportunity to speak to!
Next blog I will tell you all about some of the event management I have been involved with over the last few weeks.

When reading your blog Tana I completely agree with what you have written. When completing work experience you have to be prepared to do some of the boring jobs such as photocopying and running errands.
These may not be as exciting as other jobs you get to do but when it all comes down to it just witnessing what goes on in an organisation can be valuable.
I have found at my placement I've learnt a great deal just from seeing what people do and how a business like this works.
I actually dont mind doing all the boring things because I am grateful for the experience.
Hey Tana,
I had no idea you were doing this unit!! Hope all goes well with your placement
