Perth Fashion Festival!!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,

Well this is my first post and I am quite ashamed at that fact seeing as I have been at my placement with the Perth Fashion Festival since the start of the semester! So I have now decided to blog the week of the show which is a little crazy seeing as I have very limited time to do so. But any way I shall be blogging to keep you all informed about each show that as been (three nights worth) and the events that are still to some in the next few days.

Up until the commencement of the Festival on Friday 5th September I was primarily placed in the office with a few other girls who were either doing a placement for you uni as well or just simply volunteering with the Festival. It may be surprising to a few people that the Perth Fashion Festival is a totally non-for profit organisation that relies heavily on sponsorship and donations. The Perth fashion Festival is also the only fashion festival or fashion week in Australia which was founded within the private sector.

For the first couple of weeks at the office I was doing more admin type of work for the HR manager who is my superior. She is in charge of all the volunteers that work in the office and as well as the ‘Style Envoy’ program that has been developed for volunteers that help out during the actual festival. A lot of my admin work had to do with the style envoy program. I would go through the applications and enter in the applicants details into a database so that we form a team from those applicants. Further details were emailing the applicants to organise interviews with the HR manager so that she could meet them and allocate them to a position that she felt appropriate. The positions that were on offer were that of back of house and front of house. Back of house includes being a dresser for the shows and front of house is more of a welcoming party role and seating guests and looking after VIP’s that are attending different shows.
As the weeks went along I was given more responsibilities and more important jobs to do.

I was teamed up with one of the project managers who was looking after the Re-styled show, Wheels and Dollbaby and the Ruth Tarvydas shows. That was eventful to say the least! One day I thought I was literally in the movie ‘The Devil Wears Prada’ as all day I was running around frantically trying to get jobs done on time. My project manager was no were near to the ‘devil’ but I just felt like I was filming a scene for that movie the whole day! That was the first day at the Perth Fashion Festival that I worked for 12hrs and it has certainly not been the last!

So that this blog is not to long I will be posting a few more about the shows that have been already such as the invitation only launch show on Friday titled West End Haute, the WA Designer Collections 1 and 2 show that was on Saturday, The Student Runway show on Sunday which was followed by the much anticipated Wheels and Dollbaby season launch at Fashion Paramount.

Shall be posting soon about those!

WOW! that sounds amazing! well done on getting that placement! and getting to work on such excellent events!

Getting out the office would have to have definetly been a highlight of organising my event (much smaller than yours), but it was also good to see it all come together and just flow.

Look forward to reading your next post!
