Hey everyone!!!Im so excited to finally write about how my internship is going so far..
It has been two weeks now since I joined Roots Asia Pacific as an intern. I would say so far each moment has been a splendid one. The company not only concentrates on Public Relations but handles marketing and advertising as well so I was more than glad to hear my supervisor explain how I will get exposure of all these fields during my time with them..
I would say having to put everything into practice is so much different as compared to all the theory we have been learning at the uni. Each morning in the office starts with monitoring of the media which is something done by everyone in my department.
Towards the end of the first week I was introduced to calculating Rate of Investment (ROI) which im still working on at the moment. At first it was a bit complicated task as it was something new to me. Nonetheless as time went by and I got the hang of it I started enjoying doing it.
During the first week I also got the opportunity to attend a meeting with my colleagues. It was a short meeting in which they discussed the problems they have had since handling their clients. We also came up with ways of curbing the same problems from happening again in future.
To wrap up my first entry I can only say that so far im having so much fun as an intern as im constantly learning something new. There is never a dull moment when you are around the ever jovial crew I work with and I feel honored to be part of the team.

Its really good to hear that you are doing well in your internship and hope there is still much to hear from you as time goes on.You have talked about the ROI something that I have to do. Now I have stopped doing the work because to tell the truth really I dont know what I have to do because it is something that is new to me. By the way I am still waiting for my supervisor to teach me and I guess it will be good if you can just say out a bit about this ROI. So that by the time the lesson starts it will be easy for me to understand and enjoy as you are enjoying. I guess some of people don't know what is ROI and this will be a benefit to them.

Il try to explain what ROI is based on the little that i have learned this far. When i was first introduced to ROI at work they simply explained it as a way of measuring how effective an ad was in the media..
Lets say our client is launching a new product. As PR people we are going to do all the pitching hoping that the media will give this news coverage right..?and we know that press coverage unlike advertising is something not guaranteed and is going to be done at the media's own time as we only paid the minimal costs of getting the message through to the media.
After the news has been published thats when ROI comes in as a summary to show the client all the media coverage that they have got.
I hope that was helpful in clearing what ROI is. Do feel free however if you feel there is something i left out. i would be very glad if you would add on after you have done a bit of it at your working place.
