The first few days of work are usually the hardest to adapt by, there are the the few things that you need to learn and know about before being comfortable in a working environment. Like keying in the you ID, email address, work desk, who is in charge of who and what section, who you need to report to on what accounts and ofcourse, learning the company's writing formats and styles on your work.
Every monday as the starting of a new week, a meeting(WIP) will be held by the entire staffs, which brings us all from the Head director to interns, to meet up and update on the accounts they are on and what progress was made during the last week. This is where suggestions can be given in terms of 'working together as a team'.
I was put on a few accounts to manage and write materials like press releases, media invites, data keying reports, analysing case studies of different companies, backgrounder, fact sheets, questions and answers(Q&A), Media calls, media drop offs, diary listings, speeches, check lists and more materials and work tasks. Most materials will be revised by the senior executives managing those particular accounts and materials will then be filed together into the report.
The challenges I have in working as a public relations intern would be dealing with the question and answers document, where it is one of the most vital piece of work that needs to be filed together with the other documents, to be handed to the spokesperson, the questions are generated to prepare the spokesperson on how to deal with every possible questions that the media will 'shoot' at them. The only way that I was thought how to deal with this problem, is to research on the topic and put yourself as the journalist, what would you ask them?
Most of what is experienced in this work place were mostly learnt through the previous units in public relations, PR200 teaches you how to write and deal with projects, PR250 teaches how to deal with the media, PR300 teaches the overall techniques on how to deal with clientsand their accounts and managing them. It is in this Public relations 393(practise) where you finally realise how important and vital it is to handle client accounts. The professionalism and multidisciplinary practise which you learn on the ethical approach are important in getting the information you want and presenting a good report/project filed up.
Till next time for more insightful updates.
Yours Truely,
