3rd week into Internship at Artform Furniture

Hi guys, hope you have an enjoyable time at work.

As mentioned in my previous entry, I was invited to attend the Renci Charity Show at Mediacorp on 24th January 2010 (Sunday) with my boss. Below are some pictures that I took during the show:

Start of the show: The performing artiste

Host of the night: (from left to right) Kym Ng, Guo Liang, Quan Yi Fong & Dasmond Koh

Overseas artiste: Xue Jia Yan

One of the Ren Ci's patient

The highlight of the night with Singapore's famous "Auntie Lucy".

End of the show. Can you spot Mr. Lee Hsien Long?

I can’t help but to admit that the show was kind of boring. haha...

Anyway, I am into the 3rd week of my internship. It has been a busy week for me, having to come up with the draft layout of the website and doing up a newsletter for the company. I have also been doing some media tracking to keep a lookout for future potential projects, through this website www.bciasia.com . This website shows the latest updates on projects, from the developer to the awarded main contractor. This way, we know who to look for should we decide to approach them to tender for the project.

As Chinese New Year is approaching, I have been asked to co-ordinate for the annual company dinner which will be held at the Sakura Restaurant. I did a small event checklist to make sure that everything will go smoothly that day.

Recently, I too shared with my boss the benefits of project management skills and the usefulness of Gantt Charts since the company is involved with work that requires a lot of project management and there is a lot of deadlines involved. I have also done up a Gantt Chart with the help of Excel, showing the different stages of work ranging from sample submission to project maintenance period. This way, it is easier to monitor the flow of work and therefore, ensure that deadlines are met.

It has been a hectic week for me, with so much work piling up. However, I’m beginning to understand how can Public Relations apply differently to different companies. Initially, I thought that a traditional company like mine would not require PR but I was wrong. PR is an essential and important element in a company’s daily operations.

To be continued...

Hi Vincent

Basically everyone is PR, not professionally but yes normally. Why I said so is because PR is always dealing with social networking. Everyone need to establish relationship with people. I'm doing this, you are doing this and he is doing this. The only different is, we are professional PR.

I'm currently having my internship at a furniture company. They don't have PR department but their marketing department is doing something "PR". If it is about starting a PR department in one company, I think we need time and enough MONEY. However, most of the company always think that PR will only waste money (I don't think so). So I can imagine what kind of barrier you are actually facing now. maybe :P

Every country have different belief and culture. This is just like every corporate have their own working system. PR is not always appropriate for everyone, but only for some particular company.

When we as a PR people working in a company that doesn't have a PR department, we must do a lot and a lot of research, before we propose. Establish a PR department is not a one-day-job. We have to follow step-by-step. And I know we can achieve it one day with our persistency.

They will eventually understand our uniqueness. Don't stress too much, cheer.
