when dealing with a very sensitive client,one can get really worried about what to do or say when the media calls to know about certain issues regarding your client. Especially if your client is going through a CRISIS
that is why you always have to :
-Be prepared for anything you maybe asked regarding your client
-know how you are going to answer or address the situation that the media wants to know
-make sure you have credible information.. and this is crucial, no fluff
At this point you will know, is why is of major importance to have a HOLDING STATEMENT.
A holding statement has to be prepared especially if your client is going to draw in a lot of media interest.
before anything else you should be able to put yourself in a position, that if you were the media what would you like to know?(draft it down in a question and answer format it usually helps) ,and then you prepare the holding statement. it usually would include:
-detailed information about your client
-any recent developments or progresses that your client has been making
if there is an issue about your client,the holding statement should include what your client is doing about the issue, keep in mind the reputation of your client.
REMEMBER..being able to give the media important information that they need about your client, makes sure that you and your client have good Media Relations, and it gives you more credibility.
