My Public relations internship at Limkokwing University has come to an end. i must admit it was a bitter sweet goodbye because all in all it was a very rewarding experience.
i walked in a raw intern and walking out a polished profession/industry ready individual. i have learned a lot in terms of how to deal with external key publics especially the media and i also how articles/releases are written. I can now draw the line between writing a journalistic story as well as pr story. you will find that articles in pr are written in promotional style and the prominence of the organisation is a must throughout the article.
As i have mentioned in my earlier post, being a practitioner requires plenty of patience, research and knowledge too are a must. Research gives you an upper hand when dealing with your external key publics and they too will respect you for your insight and confidence.
When you are involved in organizing an event you should always make sure that you have all the angles covered especially when dealing with the media so that you can be in a position to give them all the information they will require about the event.
i am especially greatfull to the Limkokwing staff i worked with. it was fun. what was amazing was the atmosphere in the office was a very relaxed one yet every body new when to get serious. this especially as a young intern looking to learn the ropes of the industry is a welcome aspect because you find your own niche in the set up and aren't afraid to ask questions. one does not feel intimidated.
They say education is a lifelong experience. i am armed with plenty of it, knowledge to add and ready to take on the corporate world.

Hey there
Its good that you cant wait to take on the corporate world, i almost envy your optimism.Anyway I share your sentiments, what i have noticed is that when hosting an event, you should always have press kits to hand out to journalists you have invited. This is not only courteous but also serves as a foundation to their stories.
Our experiences are almost the same, i remember the first day at the office like it was yesterday. I walked in as a little shy mouse but came out of the corporate experience a roaring lion.
Thanks for posting.
hie Baatile..
Research is indeed vital to public relations. It can make a real difference to the effectiveness of organizational communication be it external or external.
Moreover information gained from meaningful research helps position the public relations at the decision making levels of the organization.
