The best is yet to come…

I suppose this will be my last post for PR 393, Professional practice. I would like to say thanks to our tute Katharina Wolf, who decided to run this unit by sending us, the students to seek and safe a position for ourselves as “unofficial” and less-experience PR officer J

I know from the very beginning this unit will help me to obtain skills and techniques in the world of PR. I just didn’t realize, the unit helps me to achieve MAMMOTH things so far. Somehow, I think I could say that I am ready to start put my skills in practice. I am ready to networking with others. I am ready to enter the PR world.

Reading some of the blog entries, made me realize how each one of us have gained and learnt different things. What happened to me, writing speech for minister, helping with major events, made 80 copies of document – taught me so many things. Reading other people’s experiences was a fun process, you get to appreciate what you’ve had and try to obtain skills that you may haven’t got the chance to get.

The blog entries, helped me in reflecting my days and improve my ability to share experiences and exchanging thoughts and opinions with so many different people with different background and charateristics, which is beneficial for me as I get to learn new things from people who have different cultural background.

I wish everyone best of luck for the future and the studies. I believe, the best is yet to come…. Get ready the PR world, as Curtin graduates will conquer your world!!!.... J

Hi again Cynthia,

I see that you did some speech-writing activities too? How was it? Was it a difficult task?

In my organisation, I did not have the chance to do speech-writing because, well, we cant. The speech script came from the Headquarters in KL and what we do is execute (My guess is because the government of Malaysia wants to keep things standardised so there isn't any variation in the dissemination of information). One thing that we do is that we do a lot of before speech giving is the demographic research of our audience - making sure that our delivery is as effective as it can be.

I feel that this centralised structure isn't effective in the long run. I think decentralising the structure would have made things more efficient and effective because our department should be able to work freely without waiting for orders from headquarters to execute actions. It allows managers from different departments to use their first hand knowledge and experience to improve their areas better and more effectively.

I'm not so sure though, what say you?
