I have finally come to conclude my placement at an event management company. I have learnt so many new skills and gained so much experience from my time within the the industry.
Initially it was difficult as I came in with the stigma that the theory I learnt in class could never prepare me for the work I would be conducting within my role. However, I believe that fundamental skills such as stakeholders relations and organisational behaviour learnt during public realtions and management courses greatly assisted me. These theorys enabled me with the knowledge to assess and critically view situations to make the correct decisions. Impacting the way I acted and the way I was percieved in my role by clients and my colleagues.
My placement was not easy and it was not glamorous. Which I feel is a great misconception of the events industry. I am eternally greatful for the chance I was given and the insight I gained allowing me to both grow my skill set and myself.

It's great to hear someone discussing the releveance of what they have learnt in class, to their internship. Despite coming across a number of things I hadn't learnt about at uni within my own internship, I too was able to complete many tasks with ease as a result of skills and idea's learnt throughout the past three years of my degree.
hi!
i agree with you when u say that the theories we have learnt in class have been helping to assess situations and make good decisions. i once had to look for sponsorship for my event.i remembered all my lectures on sponsorship and what were the steps to follow so as to be able to get a sponsorship.
i must say that all i learnt from class really helped.
that would be all for me. hope you are enjoying your report.
cheers!

Hi Jane,
This has been one of the most interesting things I felt like I experienced too! Although not a lot of the actual work I completed at uni was really telling me what to do in my events role my degree has sneakily given me skills to be able to work efficiently in the workplace. I was quite scared going into my placement that I wouldn't know what to do or have the right experiences however I have ended up feeling more confident and excited about what is coming next!
Best of luck for the future!

I found that at the beginning of my internship I felt like I didn't know anything about PR! That uni hadn't taught me anything useful and that the industry was nothing like I had expected! It wasn't until my last week, when I was thinking about my report, that I realised how everything ties together. Uni really taught us the foundation skills we need and this placement unit taught us how to apply those skills to a variety of different tasks, maybe things we didn't learn to do at uni.
I think that's te great thing about this unit- that it finally ties together everything we've learnt and the 'real world'.
