Mixing with other Marketing Officers

During my time working at this travel company, I would say the best part without a doubt has been mixing with other marketing and PR officers. I have been treated to a few perks over the last few weeks, with hotel breakfasts and product ‘training and testing’ with marketing officers from various WA hotels and tour companies.

Last week we went to a hotel and were given a tour of the rooms and treated to sample everything on their breakfast menu. It was great to mingle with people from other marketing companies.

We also have had tour companies come in and give presentations of their tours, with pictures and video clips of what they do. It’s good for the reservations team, because they learn some great information and can sell things a lot better when they know a bit about them. It’s also great for us in the communications department because we learn more about the products, which makes it easier to talk and write about them on the website and in the company’s promotions.

It’s also great fun to talk to the tour operators first hand, see samples of photos and get detailed information about their tour itineraries and how they want them to be presented. The only problem with working in a travel wholesaler company is that it is making me eager to go travelling. And with us nearing the end of semester... I can’t wait to take a holiday!!

Sounds like you got to see so many aspects of PR and have truely discovered the importance of netwroking. This is something that I also found during my placement. I met so many people that will be beneficial contacts for me to have when furthering my career. I hope that you have also found the same level of benefit from your time in your placement. Enjoy your holiday :)
