Hi all,
As my twelve week placement at a healthcare PR agency comes to an end, and as I begin finalising my final report, I am amazed to look back on just how much I have learnt and the array of experiences I have had throughout my placement.
As I am sure many of you have found, it becomes easy to get caught up in the day-to-day activities your placement brings, and to loose sight of just how much you are accomplishing.
When I look back on my skills prior to the PR393 unit I am stunned to think that I had never pitched to the media or undertaken the basics of web development. Although I hope to continuously improve on these new skills, I am amazed to think that prior to my placement I didn't possess them at all!
Wishing you all the very best for your final reports, and future endeavors, and sincerely hoping you have all gained as much from your placment experience as I have!
Bye for now!

Hi TR,
I can strongly agree with what you say about looking back to our possessed skills prior to PR 393. From just learning the different components of public relations in a university degree to applying it, this process has been transformational. What are some of the experiences that you think were inspiring?
What skills have you possessed from your internship that you think will be applicable to your next job? Are you looking to keep networking with the employees of Healthcare PR?
As I have recently completed my internship with Pigeonhole, I can understand what you mean by loosing sight of just how much you accomplish in the short period of time. The responsibilities given to me, gave me the feeling of importance and value to the company.
I hope your experience was just as inspiring as mine. I would love to hear about your future endeavours with Healthcare PR as a past intern.
Additionally, the final report has given me an insight on the countless tasks I have completed as an intern. On completion of your final report, I hope you feel as accomplished as I do. Good luck for your future jobs or placement.
Hi TR,
You’ve done a great job! I think PR 393 is really an interesting course that provides invaluable and useful practical PR working experience to students. More importantly, it helps students to improve and develop skills on certain areas. During my internship, I came across people from different cultural and nationality background, whether public or colleagues. I am pleased that I am able to communicate well and respect one another despite cultural differences and views.
This internship gave students opportunity to communicate with media which is a very interesting one. During this internship, I realized the importance of building and maintaining relationship with media. This can ensure positive media coverage of the organization. It is important to respond promptly to any media requests. This internship increased my time management and communication skills.
This internship has also given students opportunity to meet new friends apart from applying theoretical knowledge in real life working situation. It gives me motivation to challenge myself. I would say that PR world is lively and full of fun!
I definitely agree with you about not realising how much you have done until you actually start trying to think about it. When I was writing my report, adding appendices of examples of work I had completed, I had to stop myself because I was worried I was putting too much!
I can also say that have, similarly to you, completed tasks that I hadn't even realised existed or the importance of throughout uni. I think that's part of what makes the experience of completing this internship; realising that there is so much more out there than what we have experienced within the walls of the lecture theatre.
That is so true, TR!
During my own placement at the Department of Information, I sometimes do loose track of what I've been doing. On some occasion, it felt as if I'm repeating the same thing every day. What i didn't know is that for all the repetitive task that I've been doing, day by day, it has definitely sharpen my skills and at the same time obtain more skills along the way!
Like for example dealing with the media. In the beginning I learnt how to write to the media. Later on, I learnt how I can make it more effective and efficient. In the end, I was able to communicate with the media with confidence and maintain good communication with them. Without knowing, I could deal with the media without even refering to my colleagues as if it was second nature to me already. It may sound easy but there is a lot of protocols and policies to be followed and what surprises me is that, I learnt all that in the span of 1.5 months! (bearing in mind there are also other tasks besides dealing with the media so that adds on too :P)
The experience is just phenomenal, and helps you grow in terms of responsibility and the way you present yourself to people. And the best part is you get to meet different kinds of people who can be more or less influential and inevitably change your whole life...positively. You also get to make wiser decisions as you interact with daily activities which relate to you as much more real as compared to life in college. Like you, i really value the PR 393 professional placement.
