I began my internship at Pigeonhole almost two months ago, much to my surprise I recently discovered I have not been posted my blogs to the PR 939 reflective blog, rather I invented my own. So this has been my Pigeonhole experience so far….My fellow intern's and staff are nothing but wonderful, making it a pleasure to spend every Thursday and Friday in their presence. Myself and three other girls have been assigned the job of organising the Lomovember exhibition, raising money for Beyond Blue and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. The Lomovember event exhibits Lomography photos aiming to promote the 'old school' photography products. As a keen photography myself, it seems too good to be true...being surrounded by talented photographers and their works while helping a good cause.
My job at Pigeonhole is assisting in the organisation of LOMOVEMBER , for those of you who are unaware of what this is let me explain.
Lomovember is a photography exhibition held in the month of November (believe it or not!). The event is held for two reason, 1 = to raise money for Movember (Prostate Cancer and Men's depression) and 2 = to display beautiful photographs captured with that of the old school Lomography cameras.
I'm sure the majority of you have witnessed those bits of fluffy hair which appear between a males mouth and nose, some brag bushes of black prickles whilst others show off those unimpressive 4 hairs which they refer to as a moustache. Anyway, these 'moustaches' tend to appear around the month of November, why? For The Movemeber Foundation of course. Each male willing to grow a 'mo' for the month receives donations, these donations then go towards Prostate Cancer and Men's Depression.
How do the photographs relate? You may be asking yourselves! Well, the photographs, all 150 of them will be displayed in a gallery on William street and will be open to the public to silently bid on the works. The opening night will be held on the 5th of November, continuing over the weekend until finishing up on the 10th. I have been informed that last year’s event attracted over 400 people, this year we are hoping the event will be bigger and better.
As fellow Uni students I'm sure you are all aware of the feeling of having so much to do you don't know where to start? That would explain each day I begin working at Pigeonhole, as Lomovember is just a mere 7 weeks away my workload is increasing dramatically!
My duties have now been extended to writing feature articles to send to local newspapers, television stations and magazines. It is handy to know that writing 10 stories for a variety a media outlets for PR media last year was relevant. Each media outlet will require an alternate story. I am looking forward in seeing which outlets will be interested in publishing information about this charity event, fingers crossed all of them! As Lomovember covers a range of topics from photography, cameras, Pigeonhole, prostate cancer, depression and Movember I'm sure there will be no problem in finding a variety of story angles.
As far as catering, donations and sponsorship goes I have not been overly successful. As Lomovember is the beginning of the 'crazy season' for people involved in the food and beverage industry, no one is willing to support an event held on a weekend as summer approaches.
Never a dull day at Pigeonhole, a week ago I was reeled into this 'photo shoot' for Friday I'm in love...a day playing dress up's! :)
If anyone is interested in volunteering for a good cause as well as gaining experience in the industry, please email me celeste_walks@hotmail.com .
Until next time, Take care x
