And welcome to the first installment of my blog. Recently I began my work experience at the Miami Bakehouse in their Marketing and PR Department, with last Monday seeing me get involved in my first PR activity of note.

It all started the previous Thursday when my boss Simone heard on the radio that the NOVA crew of Nathan, Nat and Shaun Mac were again taking their show on the road with their G'Day Perth Bus Tour, their first palce of venture being Melville on Monday.
With a Miami Bakehouse store in Melville and having worked with NOVA before, Simone thought maybe they could stop by, and in a snap decision she decided to launch a 40cm sausage roll called the Shauny after Shaun Macmanus a loyal customer. Somehow and I still dont know how she didnt see the obvious jokes that would follow. The crew didnt immediately get back to our emails so we followed it up with another on Friday, with them calling us back to say they were keen to do a whole hour from the store and somehow have a food related challenge for Nathan and guest and Iron Chef contestant Matt Stone.
That gave us little time to organise the event, with us only having a few hours on Friday to organise the games, the relevant food and utencils, the 40cm Sausage rolls, someone to take photos for our Facebook page and staff. In the end the day ran smoothly, securing a lot of free publicity for the Miami Bakehouse, with us only forgetting to organise someone to don the Mascot Suit, which left me as the fooloish looking Mr Baker Man. After the day we also followed up with NOVA thanking them for their support and saying how we really enjoyed having them there.

The day taught me that if someone doesnt reply immediatly, dont just let it go because a follow up email can do the trick, also its important to keep up a good relationship with the media as you dont know when you could call on them again, also you dont always need a long time frame to organise an event and finally wearing long clothes and a large foam head for an hour and a half in the sun can get a little uncomfortable.
Adios
