Doing a website front page for them is part of my initiative while working in TCF. I have decided to draft a website FrontPage out for them after visiting their website. The draft is meant to improve their current website’s layout and to include tabs which I think will make their website easier to read and to browse through.
Having a website planned took me about a week. I did the planning stage with the help of PR technique book:) The planning stage I took includes jotting down who is my main target audience, what is my objective of these website, how I would want my website’s layout to be like, what to include in my website’s frontpage. Also, I had to research on my company to gain an understanding of what my organization is doing and what are we offering so that all the information would be provided in their website.
Next, I looked through some non-for-profit organization website and corporate website to get some ideas and inspiration on how I can design TCF’s website. I would say that looking through other organization websites really helps in my planning and designing. Of course, I suppose having visual skills is a plus point as it just pieces your little ideas together.
I did a lot of trail and errors to prefect my website’s layout too. The initial planning stage really helps in shaping TCF’s website; the information to provide, what colors to use, how the layout will be like and so on. I have also learnt that the initial planning stage is crucial as it really guide me while creating the website.
Reflecting back, I thought that PR techniques’ class is really a really useful module to take.

What you are doing reminded me of PR (techniques) one of the portfolio collections was to design a webpage, I did mine on a word doc putting boxes and arrows to illustrate my content etc. Never thought that it would be of use as I always thought that you will need some kind of training to know how to use the HTML etc..
It would be interesting if you could expand more on how you did it, like did your supervisor taught you how to use HTML and stuff or did you already have background knowledge of it? Would love to know more about it just in case I get thrown into a situation like that. I am interning at Socialite Media and most of the tips, for example to add mass friends on facebook and stuff were self-taught by watching youtube and stuff. Let me know! (: - Alysia

like you have mention, all is being taught during our PR (techniques) class! I've used Microsoft Publisher to help me with my webpage. I've used their template as a guideline, then I edit from there, I've only design the website's frontpage (its a draft!) as I find that my organization's website, as compared to its competitor is far less organize, attractive and engaging. Anyway, I still have to gain approval first before making any major changes! I've learnt a little on HTML from www.about.com. (I thought this website is quite useful!) however, it is really tedious to use HTML, i would recommend Microsoft Pubisher instead. hope this helps.
