Clarification of the big picture!!

After submitting my first blog of this work experience, I realised that I didn't fully explain where my placement actually was. FESA is the Fire and Emergency Service for Western Australia.

The team that I am working with in FESA is the Media and Public Affairs team, who liaise directly with WA media in emergency situations. On top of this FESA are responsible for creating action plans and communication plans for any potential hazards.

The primary incident that this team is concerned with is Bush fire season, which runs from early November all the way through to March or even April in the South West. Bushfire season also runs all winter in the north of WA. In this respect, FESA is very uniqueas it is the only government agency that controls north and south of a region. MPA (Media and Public Affairs) staff handle queries from the public and issue alerts through the media.

FESA arn't just concerned with Bushfires however, they also handle cyclones, storm season, Earthquakes, floods, land search, hazardous materials, sea search and rescue, vertical rescue, road crash rescue, tsunamis and all general emergency queries.

As I mentioned in my last blog, I am creating a Crisis Communication plan for Tsunami in Western Australia.

This is a large challenge for my first project in the 'real world,' because as I have recently just found out, there is no preceding work. The crisis plan that I am creating will be the first in Western Australia!

Within my next blog, I will give you more technical details on how I am creating this plan and how I plan to implement it!!

But for now, personally, I am really enjoying the opportunity to stumble my way through this project. Stumble in the respect that I am not sure exactly when to stop added and expanding my plan, so I am adding and expanding everwhere. Fingers crossed someone tells me when to stop!
