My placement started early September and I have been procrastinating for far too long. I guess, it’s better late than never.

I am working for the Hong Kong Australia Business Association Limited (HKABA) for the WA chapter. It is a non-for-profit organization, mainly sponsored by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Hong Kong Tourism Board, dedicated to growing business links between Australia and Hong Kong. The organization serves as a networking platform for entrepreneurs and corporations from various industries to explore further business or partnership opportunities.

With the little understanding of the existence of HKABA, let me start from the beginning of my placement experience.

My first day at the HKABA – WA office was not what I had expected it to be. The office is small and cozy, and there is work space for only 3 people! It was later revealed to me that there are only 6 volunteer committee members in the WA chapter, and all of them have a full-time day job as well, hence the size.

The task that they have assigned to me is the ‘Membership Project’. The objective of this project is to attract potential members and maintain relationship with current members. It will include drafting letters and electronic mails, researching for databases and coming into contact with the members to maintain a sustainable relationship. After all, PR involves maintaining good relationships, networking and communicating with stakeholders.
