Hours completed at GGF

So I have approached the end of my required hours for my placement at the Global Good Foundation. It feels as though time has gone past so quickly and that I have really settled into my place at the organisation. I have learnt so much that I could go on and on, but so as not to bore you I’ll just touch on some of the most valuable aspects that I gained an insight on…

I’ve learnt that you can put in hours of effort into something and not always get the desired result that you’ve aimed for, although especially from the point of view from an NGO, everything is worth trying. All communication is valuable in some way because at least the organisation is putting its name out there and GGF is becoming better known among its publics.

There are so many charity organisations in Perth and GGF has had to differentiate itself, using PR as its main focus to achieve this. They are also limited in terms of funds and resources, which has heightened the importance of PR and communication to an even larger extent. I have been amazed witnessing how much the organisation has achieved in its relatively short lifespan (around 3 and half years), particularly in terms of the support it has gained via sponsors, volunteers and donations.

It has made such a difference being in a relaxed work environment, even though there is so much work going on and always something to be thinking of doing. My boss and supervisor are always extremely busy, although they would never hesitate to stop for a chat and check up on how myself and the other interns were feeling about everything. There would even be times that Tenille would bring her cute dog into the office or there would be yummy mud cake to share around! I have learnt that open communication has been the key to a successful work environment, especially within PR where practitioners have to ideally be clear, to the point and time efficient.

I have found that outside of the office I am proud to talk about my placement and the work that is achieved by GGF. I am very excited about the upcoming Global Good Gala Event at the end of October and the roles I will be performing on the night as Lobby Manager and Auction Manager. I can’t wait to see the final result of the event, as I am sure that all the hard work that everyone has put in will be paid off.

I have found that I have begun to integrate GGF into my personal life, as I am eager to educate those around me about the organisation and have continued to work as a volunteer now that my hours have been completed. I suppose this is a key factor in determining how much I have enjoyed my placement and how valuable my time has been working for the organisation.
