Things can only get better ...

Day 8 has arrived and I unfortunately don't feel like I've learned anything new or had the opportunity to use the knowledge I have compiled in my 5 years of study.

I've met the Media & Communications Officer twice in 7 days, but I haven't had the opportunity to work with her as yet. Until I have completed the 'brand audit' database of the councils assets, I am out on the road taking photos. Sitting on 400 + photos, i think I'm getting close to completion.

It's exciting to see what plans the council have to modernize our image and bring from life to our city. Or try at least to change the perceptions most people have of our city.
I don't feel that it will happen anytime in the immediate future, but in time Rockingham will loose the reputation it currently holds.

For now though, I would really like to play a bigger role in the re branding process.
I'd like to have a hand in writing a media release or two, a fact sheet or a story for the City Chronicle.
From their re branding timeline, I can see they are holding some small events in December to launch the new modernized logo & tag line. I would love to take part in organizing and facilitating them.

I won't be at the council when they develop a tourism and public relations strategy, but it's good to see what I've learnt over the past few years is actually what real companies and Council create and implement.

I have read through past media enquires and replies, mayor speeches, media releases, city brochures, fact sheets, City Chronicle and newsletter etc so I can see how they use PR techniques. For the most part, they execute what I have learnt in all my PR units so I can wait to put what i have learned to the test.

It's good to hear how well other peoples placements are going. It's also good to see I'm not alone carrying out what I feel are basic and boring tasks. I'm hoping I can post something upbeat about how much i am enjoying my placement in the near future.
