The day has come!
Like most of you, my final day at my placement has come and gone- and what a great day it was! I started my placement off with a free morning tea and it was only appropriate that it should end that way too. Cake, sausage rolls, quiche, not much to complain about really!
Enough about the freebies, time to talk about the learning curve. I must say that I had very high expectations of this unit- having spent many (stressful!) hours trying to secure the perfect placement. It must also be said that initially I was slightly disappointed with my internship, however in full honesty I can say that my feelings have since changed dramatically. The longer I was at my internship- the better the tasks and the more I got out of being there.
Whilst writing my report I came to the realisation that I spent a lot of time completing very important duties. During my time at the Department for Communities I wrote four media releases, a speech introducing the Mayor of Perth, an article which appeared in Have-A-Go newspaper and two articles that were published on the Departments intranet. I also did a lot of other tasks that provided me with a lot of valuable experience.
This unit has taught me a lot and has equipped me with the ability to slide into the 'real world' with ease. I am very thankful for this opportunity and would like to take the time to thank the Department- specifically Jen and Allan who have been fantastic in assiting me.
Good luck in the real world guys and I hope to be seeing you all out there soon!!

Hi Bianca,
Great post you have there! It is good to know that you ended your internship on a high note and gained much more insights to the industry than before.
I see you did a lot of public relations-related work pieces during your placement. Aside from media releases, did the skills you learn in school help in the completion of your other tasks?
Hope the report writing is going well!
Cheers,
Joyce
