Hey all
I managed to complete the piece I was writing for RPH’s newsletter, ‘Servio’. It was the one about the unique program that the Psychiatry Department have developed. It’s an interesting topic so I found it fairly simple to write about, I could include more factual information and use less formal language compared to when writing a media release. However I had a lot of information after conducting the interview with the Ward’s Operation Manager so I had to pick out the most relevant and interesting aspects to include. I would have liked to have completed it sooner than what I did, I think I spent a bit too much time going over the fine details of the program when it’s not really necessary to include this in a newsletter publication. Much like a media release it’s all about getting the reader’s attention and keeping them interested, no one wants to know about the boring facts! Anyhow that’s something I’ll keep in mind for next time.
I conducted my very first photo shoot to go with the piece! Well I say photo shoot but it was really just taking a couple of quick snaps, exciting nonetheless J It was just a matter of arranging a time with the operations manager. She set it up so that we were able to get a photo of the entire team at the beginning of their management meeting. It was important to focus in on the subject and minimise background space so that the image would fit nicely in the newsletter.
The last couple of days I’ve been working on broadening RPH’s media networks by researching non mainstream publications related to health in Western Australia. I was surprised to find a long list of them. I was also interested to find a number of indigenous publications. In addition to this, I’ve put together a calendar of health events, days, activities and conferences for the next six to seven months. This is so RPH can get involved in the events to generate some good stories and take on a proactive media approach.
I think I’ll be working on another piece for the newsletter about a staff member that was awarded so I’ll let you know how that goes next time.
I am starting to feel like quite the professional J
